One turn, played by the rules

You describe your hero’s action. The judge names the stake, the dice decide the outcome, and only then does the narrator describe it.

Your move
I drop off the fire escape onto the enforcer before he can bring the rifle up.
Judge
Your agility and brawling against his reaction. A wound is on the line, and you have exactly as much time as the drop takes: anything longer gets trimmed back to what you can actually pull off.
Rollat stake: a wound
94vs52
A drop onto the enforcer while his rifle is still coming up
Narrator

The rifle is still coming up when you land on him. Your heel catches his jaw, the weapon skitters off into the wet dark of the alley, and the enforcer folds against the dumpster with one hand clamped over his shoulder. There will be no second shot.

And this stayed in the world
Wound
The enforcer has a ruined shoulder, every blow of his lands softer now, and the next wound will land harder than this one.
Experience
That landing could have gone wrong, so the hero trusts it a little more. Risky checks are what raise a skill.
Memory
The scuffle behind the loading dock went into the chronicle and can be recalled in later sessions, when it matters again.

The judge and the dice decided the price and the outcome; the narrator only describes the result.

Why this is not a chat with a model

UsuallyThe model decides whether you pulled it off, and almost always decides you did.
HereDice and your hero sheet decide, and the price is named first.
UsuallyLong chats can lose earlier context.
HereThe chronicle brings your debts and promises back when they matter again.
UsuallyThe world waits on pause for your next line.
HereKey characters can act off screen between sessions.
UsuallyOne sentence can declare anything a fact, up to your own victory.
HereYou control your hero — body, words, and intent. The world and other characters respond by the rules.

Your hero has a sheet, and it counts

Everything you wear and everything happening to you are one and the same screen of the game. Every piece takes its own place on the body, carries the bonus written into it, and enters the roll exactly when it belongs there. Wounds pile up, get in your way and do not go away because you stopped mentioning them. Venom, nerve and bleeding hang on you as honest numbers. Rounds run out, money is spent, and reserves refill only for a reason in play. Hero death is permanent and ends the story.

It costs exactly that, and it works the same way every time.

And none of it is invented on the spot: abilities work at the cost and effect written on the sheet, and the narrator neither grants a new one mid-fight nor drops one you already have.

Characters and world history persist across sessions

The stranger the narrator introduces in a bar does not dissolve in the next paragraph: a sheet is opened for them, with a biography, a temper, hidden goals and skill numbers, and ten sessions later they are still the same person with the same opinion of you. Your own story does not drown in the backlog either: important bargains and promises are recorded in the chronicle with their own game date and can be recalled when they matter again.

What the world wrote down
spring, day three

The deal behind the pawnshop

The fence took the alloy plate for half its worth, and asked for a second one before the auction.

spring, day nine

A debt to Delgado

Twelve hundred for the way into the docks. He never named a date, but he said it twice.

spring, day eleven

The woman on the platform

She asked you to walk her to the uptown train. You took the rooftops instead, and she stayed to wait for the next one.

And while you are away, the world has its own business

The people around you do not live only when you are looking. While the hero sleeps it off at the safehouse, someone finishes what they started, someone comes back with a haul that was not theirs, and someone does not come back at all. While the hero is busy, life off screen plays out for key characters: rolls, wounds, and loot. Factions update their goals when a session ends, and you meet the results later.

Within an ongoing session you can revert to an earlier moment and replay the scene; ended sessions and hero death cannot be undone.
